A golden dragon lantern coils through this wallpaper — the classic Chinese festival dragon, its body formed in segments, its head raised at the front, every scale catching the light. The image was shot at one of our dragon festival installations, and it captures the moment that makes a dragon display unforgettable: the full length of the body glowing in sequence, as if the dragon is breathing light. The golden dragon is the most photographed single figure in any lantern festival. Its length — from a 6 m courtyard piece to a 30 m procession dragon — gives it a presence no other figure matches. The construction is segmental: each body section is a steel frame covered in silk, connected by articulated joints so the dragon can curve and coil. The head is a separate, more detailed module with the whiskers, mane, and horn structure sculpted by hand. Lighting is the key to the dragon’s effect. Each segment carries its own LED set, wired so the light appears to run along the body — a sequential chase effect that creates the impression of movement even when the dragon is stationary. The golden colour comes from the silk selection and the paint, layered so the light passes through the fabric rather than washing it out. Festivals use golden dragons for opening ceremonies, main-stage backdrops, and as the centrepiece of the parade route. They are also the most requested figure for Chinese New Year municipal displays. Sizes and configurations are custom to each venue, with installation crew available worldwide.
