The Story Behind This Wallpaper
This wallpaper presents a heritage Chinese dragon lantern in a traditional courtyard setting — a design that references the classic imperial dragon style, with a slimmer body, more articulated segments, and colouration closer to the bronze-and-green of historic ceramics than the bright gold of festival displays. It is the piece that connects the modern lantern industry to its centuries-old roots.
The heritage dragon is part of our Cultural & Heritage Lanterns range, the product line that documents traditional Chinese craft. Its construction is closer to historical methods: the steel frame is the modern update of the bamboo-and-wood frames used for centuries, but the hand-painting and the layered silk follow the same techniques. The result is a figure that reads as “museum-grade” rather than “carnival-grade” — which is exactly what cultural venues want.
For museums and heritage sites, this dragon does what a static exhibit piece cannot: it makes the history visible at night. The lighting is dimmer and warmer than festival pieces, designed to evoke candlelight rather than electric brilliance. The segments are individually adjustable, so the dragon can be displayed in a straight line along a wall, coiled in a plaza, or arched over an entrance.
Cultural venues, museum galleries, heritage parks, and Chinese gardens use this piece as a permanent or seasonal installation. It is built to be assembled and disassembled annually, with the silk panels replaceable when they age. Factory-direct from Zigong, with installation supervision available.
