Life-Size Animatronic White Rhino Statue for Zoos & Exhibits
Bring the African savanna to your venue with our life-size animatronic white rhino statue — a hand-sculpted replica built for full-year outdoor exhibition. Captured mid-stride with mouth open and ears flared, the piece carries the unmistakable weight of a real Ceratotherium simum — wide shoulders, deep chest, the characteristic wide muzzle.
At the heart of the design is the mouth and vocal system: a motion-activated sequence opens the jaw and produces a deep snorting call, perfectly timed with a subtle head raise. The result is what visitors describe as “the moment the rhino looks back at you” — a brief engagement that anchors the whole exhibit and gives guests a reason to stop and photograph.
A reinforced concrete base with a textured earth finish spreads the weight evenly across loose ground, concrete pad, or grass. The skin takes applied weathering and acrylic paint — our painters layer base coat, shadow washes, and detail glazes to match juvenile and adult colour phases. A weatherproof control box hides inside the base so the piece can be installed without surface conduit.
Every statue is built to your venue. Size, base footprint, glass-fibre horn colour, sound character, and trigger logic (motion sensor, push button, or scheduled loop) are all set during the design review.

Key Features
Anatomy That Reads as Real
Our sculptors work from a 1:1 anatomical reference, not stylised cartoon lines. The shoulder hump, the deep chest cavity, the wide-set nostrils — these details are what make the piece read as a real animal at three metres rather than a carnival cutout. Visitors with field experience walk past and stop.
Mouth Action With Visible Sound
The jaw motion is driven by a single weatherproof servo, not a chain of small motors. This keeps the movement slow and deliberate — a real snort, not a cartoon chomp. The sound library is field recordings, looped and layered to avoid the obvious “robot repeats” feel.
Painted to Match Real Coat Condition
White rhinos in the wild range from pale grey to dark brown depending on soil and age. We paint to whichever phase you specify — juvenile, adult, or wallowing. The weathering layer also hides fingerprints and minor handling marks, which matters for a piece that lives on a public floor.
Two Sizes, Two Installation Methods
Pieces under 3 metres are built as a single self-contained unit with the controller and speaker in the base — plug into a standard outlet, no on-site electrical work. Pieces over 3 metres ship as modules and our crew comes out for the installation. Either way, the month before delivery is a design review where we lock the size, base, and trigger logic together.
Built for Outdoor Permanent Install
The skin takes a -20°C to 50°C range. The control box is IP65. The base is engineered for crowd proximity and has anchor points for permanent fixing. We have white rhinos on continuous outdoor display since 2019 with no skin replacement.
Where It Works
- Zoos and safari parks — alongside real animals or as a “lost habitat” exhibit in a development zone
- Theme parks — placed on a path where the snort catches guests off guard
- Children’s museums and science centres — for “megafauna” walk-through exhibits
- City plazas and festival grounds — short-term installations for conservation day events
- Restaurant and hotel entrance statements — sculptural anchor piece in a lobby or courtyard
