Our Chinese lantern frame display is the most visible building block of any large-scale festival — the tall, hand-painted silk pillars that anchor a square, welcome a crowd, or frame a stage. Each pillar is a steel lattice dressed in silk and lit from inside by LED modules, producing the warm golden glow that has signalled Chinese festivals for centuries.

The design you see in the photo is a bronze frame with golden circular lanterns in a vertical matrix — a configuration we built for a city plaza cultural festival. The pillars frame the entrance, with a connecting lantern corridor suspended overhead and a cultural display wall at the base. Visitors enter the festival space through the silhouette of the pillars; the lanterns read as a single architectural statement from the back of the plaza.

Why festival pillars work for city events:

  • Distance presence — pillars 4–8 metres tall read from across a plaza; the silk glow is visible from 50+ metres
  • Reusable architecture — the steel frame packs down for transport and re-erects on site; silk covers can be replaced if damaged
  • Weather-rated — IP65 LED modules, weather-treated silk, hot-dip galvanised steel structure
  • Cultural signal — the silhouette is instantly recognisable as Chinese festival, even before reading any text

Common placements: city plaza entrance, festival gateway, stage backdrop, museum courtyard, and theme park entryway.

Key Features

Steel Frame Engineered for Repeated Use

The frame bolts together in 2-metre sections. A 6-metre pillar packs into a single transport crate. Our framing has been refined over 14+ years of plaza installations — anchor points are pre-drilled, cable runs are internal, and the base plate works with either surface-mount or ballast-block installation.

Silk Covers Hand-Painted at the Workshop

Each lantern cover is hand-cut, hand-painted, and double-stitched. The silk takes weather-rated acrylic paint with a UV-resistant topcoat. Standard colours are imperial red, golden yellow, and warm white; custom colour matching runs 7–10 extra days. Covers can be replaced individually if damaged without disturbing the frame.

Modular Lantern Count Per Pillar

A 4m pillar typically holds 8 circular lanterns. A 6m pillar holds 14. An 8m pillar holds 24. The lanterns are arranged in a vertical matrix — most often 2 columns of 4 or 5 rows — and connected to a single internal LED bus. Maintenance is from the rear door; you don’t need to take the pillar apart.

Wind Stability for Outdoor Permanence

The pillar is bolted to a ground plate that handles concrete pad, grass, or temporary ballast blocks. Anchor cables run from the upper frame to ground stakes. Wind rating is 30 m/s (60 km/h gusts), which covers most outdoor plaza conditions. For coastal or typhoon-zone events, we spec a heavier base.

Integrates with Lantern Corridors and Wall Displays

The pillar is designed to bolt directly to our lantern corridor suspension cables and to accept a lantern wall display at its base. This means you can build a complete festival entrance — pillars + corridor + walls — from one coordinated kit rather than three separate products.

Two Sizes, Two Installation Methods

Pillars under 6m are designed for single-deploy on standard concrete or grass with anchor cables. Pillars 6m and above come with our installation crew for on-site assembly. Either way, the design review on your site plan is what makes the final layout work — pillar spacing, corridor height, banner placement all need to be set together.

Where It Works

  • City plaza entrances — frame the festival gateway, with adjacent cultural wall displays
  • Stage backdrops — silk pillars flank both sides of the stage, lantern corridor frames the top
  • Museum courtyard exhibitions — temporary 3-month installation with re-paintable silk
  • Theme park entryways — coordinated with corridor lanterns for an immersive walk-through
  • Cultural festival opening ceremonies — ribbon-cutting at the silk pillar, photo backdrop

Frequently Asked Questions

How tall should the pillars be for a city plaza entrance?
Most festival entrances use 6m pillars — visible from across the plaza but not overwhelming. For larger plazas (over 5,000 m²) we recommend 8m. Smaller courtyards and museum entryways work better at 4m. The lantern corridor overhead matches pillar height plus 1m clearance.
Can the silk covers be replaced if damaged?
Yes. Each lantern cover is individually screwed and clipped to the frame. Replacement covers ship in standard sizes and can be installed on site by two people in under 30 minutes per pillar. We keep replacement covers in stock for repeat customers.
How long does installation take?
A 6-pillar installation with corridor takes 2 days for our 4-person crew. Day 1 is base plate setting and frame assembly; day 2 is silk cover fitting and lighting connection. Larger events (12+ pillars) scale up linearly and require 4–5 days.
Is it suitable for coastal or typhoon-zone deployment?
Yes, with the correct base spec. We upgrade to galvanised-plus-painted frames and balloon anchor cables for coastal sites. The silk covers are acceptable for salt air but we recommend post-event cleaning for repeated use. Wind rating remains 30 m/s; for typhoon-zone, we add a second anchor cable set.
What is the realistic cost?
Pricing depends on pillar height, lantern count, and base configuration. Send us the plaza dimensions and event duration, and we will return a 3D design proposal and itemised quote within 24 hours. Pillars are quote-based, not list-priced, because the configuration varies by venue.
Can the pillars be reconfigured for different events?
Yes. The steel frame is modular — a 6m pillar can be reconfigured as a 4m pillar (by removing the top section) for a smaller venue. The corridor cables lock to the pillar top hardware, so reconfiguring the corridor height is a 30-minute adjustment. Most of our repeat customers use the same pillar kit for 3–5 events per year.
What are the materials certified for?
Cables, LED lighting, control electronics and structural steel are supplied with UL or CE certification from their manufacturers. We provide component datasheets at the quotation stage. The silk covers are tested for UV resistance and flammability rating per local market requirements.
How long does production take?
Production is 45–60 days after design confirmation, depending on pillar count and lantern configuration. Shipping is 2–4 weeks depending on destination. On-site installation adds 1–2 days for our crew. For a peak-season opening, start planning 3 months ahead.
