Rhino Beetle Lantern is built around a rhino beetle with a painted shell and a forked horn. Like every piece we make, it starts from the position it will occupy rather than from a catalogue photograph: the height, the surface and the distance a visitor stands at all feed into the frame.
The horn is built as an open frame, which keeps the piece light enough to hang while still reading as solid. Construction follows our standard build: a welded internal frame, a lit surface worked per section, and wiring installed and tested before release.
Where it works
Animal forms carry a theme into the parts of a site a single feature cannot reach: the corner of a plaza, the gap between two stalls, the strip of grass beside a path. That is why they are usually specified as a small group at two or three scales rather than one large piece, and why the ground-level pieces matter as much as the landmark.
