Giant Monkey King Lantern — Sun Wukong Festival Sculpture
The Monkey King is the one figure in Chinese mythology that audiences everywhere already know, which is why a Monkey King lantern carries a whole zone on its own. This build stands a full figure in golden armour on a cloud base, with a green dragon coiling around the pillar below and red ribbons cutting across the silhouette.
What makes a character lantern work is the face and the pose. The head is modelled rather than printed, the crown is built in layers, and the pose is set at the design stage so the figure reads as a hero from the ground and from the far side of a plaza. A straight-standing figure with a printed covering never gets there.
The base does the storytelling. Cloud forms in white and blue at the bottom, a dragon wrapping the pillar on one side, and a gold column behind carrying the light up to the figure. Placed at the end of a route, the whole composition gives visitors one clear thing to walk toward.

Where This Display Works
Theme Park Journey to the West Zones
A landmark for a mythology or literature zone, and tall enough to be found from anywhere inside the park once the lights are on.
Lunar New Year Festival Centres
A figure everyone photographs. Placed centrally, it becomes the meeting point the rest of the site is described from.
Malls and Atrium Features
A scaled version works indoors as a seasonal centrepiece, with the cloud base becoming the display platform for the surrounding floor.
Culture Parks and Tourism Sites
A long-run outdoor landmark for a cultural tourism site, built for season-after-season display rather than a single festival run.
Key Features
Modelled Head and Armour
The face, crown and armour plates are individually framed and hand-painted, so the character holds up in close-up photographs rather than only from a distance.
Pose Set at Design Stage
The stance, the angle of the staff and the swing of the ribbons are set before the build, which is what gives the figure movement instead of a straight vertical.
Sculpted Cloud Base
The cloud forms are built as separate modules, so the base can be sized to the site and reused with a different figure if the theme changes.
Dragon and Column Composition
The green dragon and the lit gold column are part of the same set as the figure, which keeps the whole piece reading as one scene when it is seen from a distance.
Modular for Freight
Figure, base, dragon and column pack as numbered modules in standard containers, with a site assembly drawing for the crew.
UL/CE-Listed Electrical Components
Lighting and power components are UL/CE listed, with wiring routed internally and an outdoor-rated control enclosure.

FAQ
How tall can the figure be built?
Our standard range runs from about 5 m to 15 m. Larger figures are engineered to order, and we confirm the height against the ground the base has to sit on and the sightlines your site can give it.
Can the pose be changed?
Yes. The stance, the staff angle and the ribbon swing are all set in the design stage. Changing a pose before the build is straightforward; changing it afterwards is not, so it is worth deciding early.
Can other Journey to the West characters be added?
They can, and that is a common way to build a zone. Figures are designed to a shared scale and palette so a group reads as one set rather than separate purchases.
Can it stand without guy wires?
On an open site we specify a base with enough ballast to stand unsupported. Where a position is exposed to wind we add discreet stabilising lines and confirm the wind load the structure is designed for.
Is an indoor version available?
Yes, at mall and atrium scale. The indoor build uses indoor-rated LED modules and a base sized to the floor loading the venue confirms.
How does it ship and how long does installation take?
As numbered modules in standard containers with an assembly drawing. Installation time depends on height and base type, and the site schedule is agreed before production starts.
How do we start a project?
Send the venue type, the footprint and the event dates, plus any character reference you want to work from. We return a free 3D concept and a proposal for the build.
