Suspended Fish Lantern Gateway — Giant Hanging Fish Lantern and Entrance Set

Fish lanterns work best overhead. Hung above a gateway, a fish lantern is visible from the whole approach and walks visitors through the entrance before they have decided where to go next. This one measures roughly 6 m from nose to tail and carries its own rigging above a festival gateway.

The body is built from overlapping scale plates, each plate lit from behind, so the surface has real depth as visitors pass underneath. The tail flares to nearly twice the body height, which is what gives the piece its weight from below. A fish hung flat loses that entirely.

The gateway under it is part of the same composition: drum lantern columns on the left, gourd lanterns in gold, blossom branches framing the top. Built together, the entrance reads as one object from the road and as several as people walk in.

Festival Entrances and Gateways
A fish over the gate answers the first question at any festival: where does the route start? It also creates the photo stop that every visitor takes before moving on.

Mall and Atrium Voids
Hung in a double-height void or above a main escalator, the fish occupies the empty air that most retail spaces waste, and it is visible from several floors at once.

Walk-Through Corridors
Repeated along a covered walkway at intervals, the pieces set a rhythm and give a long straight run some structure.

Waterside Boardwalks
Over a promenade or a boardwalk the fish picks up a reflection, and the gate below becomes the entrance to the water section of the trail.

Overhead Rigging Included
The set ships with its own suspension frame and lifting points, so the fish hangs from the gate structure or from a ceiling above it rather than needing a bespoke rig on site.

Scale-Plate Body, Lit from Behind
Overlapping plates with light behind them give the body a layered look up close and a clean silhouette from a distance.

Full Tail Flare
The tail is framed rather than printed, which is what holds the wide shape and the colour gradient when the piece is seen from underneath.

Matched Gateway Composition
Drum lantern columns, gourd lanterns and blossom branches are designed as one set with the fish, so the entrance does not look assembled from unrelated parts.

FAQ

Does the venue need to carry the weight of the fish?

Yes, the load transfers to whatever the set hangs from. On a gate we build the structure to carry it. On an existing ceiling we work to the load the venue engineer confirms, and we can split the fish into sections if the available capacity is limited.

How high does it need to hang?

Above head height with clear sightlines from the approach. As a rule the fish reads best when its lowest point sits at least 3 m above the walking surface, and the flare of the tail needs air above it.

Can the fish be built in a different species or colour?

Yes. Fish lanterns are built to the shape and palette you need, and scales, fins and tail proportions are all set in the design stage.

Can the gateway stand on its own without the fish?

It can. The gateway is a complete entrance set on its own, and many sites order it first and add the suspended pieces in a later season.

How does it ship?

As numbered modules in standard containers: fish sections, gateway frames, lantern units and the rigging package, with an assembly drawing and an installation guide.

Is it suitable for a covered outdoor walkway?

Yes, provided the structure above can take the load and there is enough headroom. We confirm both from drawings or a site survey before production.
